This is Karlsteijn Castle, about a 45 minute train ride out of Prague. This fairy tale castle was built by Emperor Charles IV in the mid 14th Century.
Down there is the small town of Karlsteijn.
This is the main castle tower. Its walls are three metres thick on three sides. The fourth side is has a hill nearby, so they made the wall seven (yes, seven) metres thick! Although the castle was stormed, this tower was never penetrated!
The castle is constantly maintained, and thats why it looks so new :)
This was amazing! To get fresh water they built this well. Its over 70m deep! If you throw something down there, it takes nearly 10 seconds to hit the water!
This is Tom and Adam from the Lake District in the UK. I met them as I got off the train.
That building in the distance is the well. Yes, its a LOT taller than you can see here.
This is the pretty castle courtyard - with obligatory ticket office and ice cream stand.
Yet more views of the castle.
On the way back to the train we crossed this nice river. Wait till you see what it looks like on the other side...
Wow! The sun is shining directly at me - and that always makes for a nice photo.
